The Battle of Ostrovno took place on July 25 and 26 1812, between the French corps of Marshal Ney and Prince Eugene, with Marshal Murat's cavalry, and the Russian corps of Count Alexander Osterman and Pyotr Konovnitsyn. The Russians repelled the attacks of the outnumbering enemy, giving Barclay de Tolly a three-day advantage over the French. Russian forces lost 3,000 killed and wounded, 800 prisoners and eight guns. French losses were about the same.
