Maroun al-Ras is a small town in southern Lebanon on the border with Israel. The village, which was a Hezbollah stronghold, was the site of combat during the 2006 Lebanon War.
On July 22, 2006 2,000 Israeli troops entered southern Lebanon. The battle for Maroun al-Ras began on July 25, and lasted for 4 days, with see-saw control of the village.[1]
The IDF reported 7 soldiers killed in the battle, and estimated Hezbollah losses at 12-30 fighters. Hezbollah reported 8 of its fighters were killed. [2]
After-battle reports claimed the IDF troops never fully secured the border area and that Maroun al-Ras was never fully taken. [3][4]
