The Baton Rouge Metropolitan Area, centered in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, is inhabited by about 790,000 people. Comprising the northeastern portion of Acadiana and the western edge of the Florida Parishes regions, it is known as "plantation country", the "capital region", and "the 225" (a reference to its area code). The Metro Area is unique for one of its size, as Baton Rouge has no major incorporated Satellite cities.

According to the United States Census Bureau, as of 2000, the Baton Rouge Metropolitan Area was 64.47% White, 31.82% Black or African American, 0.23% Native American, 1.27% Asian, 1.30 Pacific Islander, two or more races, or other. 1.65% of the population was Hispanic or Latino.
