Inaugurated in 1948, the festival, in Bath, South West England, has an illustrious artistic history and has long been a well-established event of national significance and international reputation. It takes place annually over 17 days in late May and early June, presenting a range of high quality events including orchestral, chamber and contemporary classical music, contemporary [[jazz], folk, electronica and world music.
The Festival's current artistic director is Joanna MacGregor.
The 2008 Festival runs from 21st May - 7th June. Artists already confirmed include the London Symphony Orchestra conducted by Sir Colin Davis, the Armonico Consort and The Great Voices of Bulgaria Choir.
Since 1981 the Bath Fringe Festival has taken place at the same time as the music festival providing alternative forms of entertainment.
