[edit] Huh?

I'm not understanding what you said here. I certainly had no intention of misleading anyone. I thought you were saying people should stop discussing the issue, but if I misinterpreted your remarks, I apologize. Friday (talk) 21:51, 5 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Everything Changes (Torchwood)

I actually considered that, but neither of the images served to illustrate the story point, which was Gwen's initiation into that larger world. I felt that another shot would be more appropriate. I'm sorry if you found that rude, but the choice wasn't made to undermine; it was made because the screenshots weren't the "right" ones to get the point across. --khaosworks (talkcontribs) 17:29, 24 October 2006 (UTC)

I thought you didn't want to defend it; but if you raise it on the talk page, I will certainly give my reasons why the image I selected illustrates the story better than your choice, and we can get consensus decide. --khaosworks (talkcontribs) 18:40, 24 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Orphaned fair use image (Image:Torchwood ep 1 Eve Myles.jpg)

Thanks for uploading Image:Torchwood ep 1 Eve Myles.jpg. I notice the 'image' page currently specifies that the image is unlicensed for use on Wikipedia and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable under fair use (see our fair use policy).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Yamla 18:00, 24 October 2006 (UTC)

You said: "Image does not violate fair use policy. Please cite the policy. The actress is the actress, regardless of roles. Fair use means that an image, one image, may be used to illustrate an article in question. In the case of an actress, portrayal of a character if another, more free image is not available."

Nope, sorry, recent change instigated by Jimbo Wales. We are no longer permitted to use a copyrighted image under fair-use solely to depict a living person. See WP:FUC. --Yamla 18:32, 24 October 2006 (UTC)
You said: "Then you have your work cut out for you. Why don't you go through all actors and actresses rather than stalking a single one. It looks bad for Wikipedia for you to do so when so many others are remaining untouched. Anyway, don't list this as an orphaned image. There is some discussion going on about its appropriateness to illustrate the episode, as it was the first image added to the episode guide. That was the reason I added it to the actress article in the first place."
I agree I have my work cut out for me, but please note that the policy came down from Jimbo Wales, not from me. I've changed the image now to no-rationale as it is currently missing a detailed fair-use rationale, but obviously it is no longer orphaned. Note that I am not singling this image out. I must have tagged roughly one hundred such images in the past week or so. Certainly well more than twenty, at least. I hope you don't take offence. It looks to be a good image to depict that episode (though I haven't seen the other), it just can't be used to depict a living person. --Yamla 18:38, 24 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] US Games Cards

Bastique, It sounds ironic, but I just read what you said after I had recolored all the missing major arcana cards. :P

[edit] Thank you for supporting my RfA

Thank you for your support in my RfA, which passed with a final tally of (56/0/2). It was great to see so much kind support from such competent editors and administrators as commented on my RfA.

I know I have much reading to do before I'll feel comfortable enough to use some of the more powerful admin tools, so I'll get right to it.

Again, thanks;  OzLawyer / talk  13:42, 2 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Man this is getting old

Great, just great. 1. Because I am now on DirecWay (with no other options for a server because I am in the deep woods) I cannot stay logged in *PERIOD*. 2. Before this I went to the trouble to take a photo of J. sambac in my yard, and I edited the size (bytes) for a quick load. I added it (5 months ago) to the Jasmine page. 3. Now the Wiki Police remove it, and I cannot stay logged on to put it back! It's not my fault Wikipedia has some glitch that won't recognize Direcway users, and yes I went to your help desk to no avail. Will someone PLEASE go to my website and get the pic: http://www.MagiaLuna.net/jsambac1.jpg and put it back on the darned page? The removed text under the pic read: "J.sambac in bloom along with an unopened bud. The flowers smell exactly like the tea." Please excuse my frustration. Thanks, and BTW I can't find my user page now?? And of course I logged in to post this and now I'm not logged in... Magialuna 20:34, 22 November 2006 (UTC)

Been there, done that re: cookies enabled. Source? You mean my actual name? Uh uh. I took the pic, and I can put the HUGE unedited original digital photo on my website if no one believes me. License? Huh? Magialuna 21:19, 22 November 2006 (UTC)

Ok, dial up warning, lol. Here's the original pic: http://www.MagiaLuna.net/DSC_0001.JPG Magialuna 21:45, 22 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Miami Meetup

Hey. Yeah, he's mentioned it to me and linked me to the page for it, but on the 16th I work 1 PM to 9:30 PM at Fort Lauderdale Airport. I tried to get the day off but I couldn't as it's the 2nd day of our high season frequencies when they're adding about 20 more flights just for Christmas and we're understaffed for this already so they need everyone who's scheduled to come in. I doubt it's going to be in the morning, so I guess I won't be going unless the date is changed to a Monday or Tuesday which is very unlikely. It's a shame because I really wanted to go, thanks for the maps! -- SmthManly / ManlyTalk / ManlyContribs 15:58, 7 December 2006 (UTC)

Odd, but the image here doesn't seem to be loading, it just stays blank, yet clicking on it takes you to the correct page, is this an error or is it just my crappy system, lol. -- SmthManly / ManlyTalk / ManlyContribs 16:10, 7 December 2006 (UTC)
Nah it's alright, I'll catch the next one :-) -- SmthManly / ManlyTalk / ManlyContribs 16:57, 7 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Please unblock Moby Dick

... for reasons stated here... and, not to blindside you, also discussed more publicly but in similar detail here, in case you want to address the issue as publicly. (Also in talkspace with less detail, but linking to that public page for detail, so your responses there will be seen.)

If I knew where to find a third-party "unblock" template, I would have used it on Moby's talk page. SAJordan talkcontribs 09:57, 9 Dec 2006 (UTC).

My apologies for the rather hysterical tone of my comment, but I did not like the conflict of interst involved in your blocking. For such a marginal case - was there really harassment? - it would have, IMO, been better to have another pair of eyes. Moreschi 14:01, 9 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Your comment on my talk

I've fixed the link at Meta, and thank you very much for informing me of this. I've also refactored my oppose there, as on reflection I am still uneasy about your actions, but believe that they hardly deserve the initial tone of my comment there, which I also apologise for if it caused offence. You have acted in good faith and have done what you thought was best, and your exemplary record as a Wikipedian shows that you hardly acted irrationally as you did out of some desire to protect Cool Cat: someone with a record as fine as yours will always have my trust. If community consensus is that you acted correctly, then so much the better.

For the record, I do not have a terribly high opinion of anyone involved in this dispute, yourself excepted. Cool Cat's block log speaks for itself, and the incoherent Elaragirl RFC and the bizarre nomination of WP:CIVIL for deletion were well worthy of the week-long block, if not longer. Moby Dick's actions do not seem productive and nor do those of SAJordan: but I cannot see as SAJordan's actions at any stage have constituted trolling, either here or on Comnmons, particularly given the reprehensible - there is no other word - nature of Cool Cat's actions at both projects. Legitimate criticism of poor conduct should be permitted.

Lastly, I cannot see a huge amount of point in an unblock that you do not believe to be legitimate. If you still stick by your block - which you have a perfect right to do - then you probably should not unblock.

Even more lastly, I am glad that you have thought my actions throughout those of a responsible user, and I would like to reassure you that in my eyes at least, your actions and record as a fine Wikipedian/Wikimedian speak for themselves as worthy of the highest praise. End of ludicrously pompous tone. Cheers, Moreschi 22:10, 11 December 2006 (UTC)

Eh, having just looked at SAJordan's talk, some of what I just said probably wasn't terribly tactful. Seriously, though, I think it best if no one more is blocked, and this storm in a teacup should be allowed to blow over, as I've said on SAJordan's talk. Protracted Wikidrama tends to distract heavily from the encyclopaedia. Cheers, Moreschi 22:40, 11 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Stewards elections

I think that the thread on ANI is pretty clear. Maybe I'm just seeing one side of it, I don't know, but from what I've seen so far I definitely can't side with Cool cat. I do think that at the very least, you came across as threatening to block SAJordan (even if you didn't threaten him outright or if you didn't mean you wanted to block him), I think that overall you've just been a bit too confrontational and a bit controversial regarding the whole incident. Sorry. (If you want, I can copy this response to meta.) – Chacor 02:23, 12 December 2006 (UTC)

I don't think it can be said that it's really working, unfortunately, at least here at enwiki (as Moreschi pointed out above, Cool cat should know better than to create that RFC or to have nominated CIV for deletion). I applaud your efforts in trying to help Cool cat, but I think in this case it may be better to just back off slightly (lest more similar accusations come forth about you being Cool cat's "crony"). I'm willing to re-word my oppose to take your comments on my talk page into account. – Chacor 02:43, 12 December 2006 (UTC)
Re-worded to make it less harsh and changed to a weak oppose. I really do hope this is a one-off, and anyone else with valid concerns regarding Cool cat are not just brushed aside with perceived threats. – Chacor 03:11, 12 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Publix logo source info

Hi Bastique,

I am the reviewer of a GA nomination for Publix. Things are progressing nicely between me and the reviewees. I noticed that you were the one who uploaded the SVG Publix logo. Could you possibly help out and let me know where you acquired the image from? The image needs to have detailed source information before it can pass as a GA. Much appreciated, Green451 17:32, 15 December 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for the quick reply, much appreciated. Green451 17:52, 15 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] meetup

So how'd it go, by the looks of things, not very well? I would've love to have gone, but instead i worked from 5:30 AM to 9:30 PM, with only 30 minutes for lunch... crazy, but hey, that all just means one giant paycheck, right? Still, what's the low-down? Maybe we can try it again soon if this one didn't go too well. -- SmthManly / ManlyTalk / ManlyContribs 04:44, 17 December 2006 (UTC)

March sounds great, I'll definately set up for that one, a coworker's going to India in February and i'm covering 20 of her shifts, which all just means i've got twenty shift trades she's gotta pay back to me, so that will work out great! -- SmthManly / ManlyTalk / ManlyContribs 03:54, 18 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] US Games cards: copyright?

User:Don Leon claims that the US Games tarot cards he's scanned are public domain images, because Pamela Coleman-Smith and AE Waite (artist and designer) died over 70 years ago. However they clearly contain a copyright notice in the lower-right hand corner, "(C) U.S. Games 1971". Don Leon claims you have told him this is OK, but my understanding is that if they've copyrighted that edition, we can't just make reproductions of it; we could however make reproductions of an earlier edition that is no longer under copyright. Surely we would at least have to retouch the US Games images to remove the copyright notice?!! Please explain? Cheers, Fuzzypeg 00:49, 21 December 2006 (UTC)
