[edit] My concern about your username (Bastard Soap)

Hello, Bastard Soap, and thank you for contributing to Wikipedia!

I hope not to seem unfriendly or make you feel unwelcome, but I noticed your username, and am concerned that it might not meet Wikipedia's username policy. After you look over that policy, could we discuss that concern here?

Your username contains profanity and is thus an inappropriate username.

I'd appreciate learning your own views, for instance your reasons for wanting this particular name, and what alternative username you might accept that avoids raising this concern.

You have several options freely available to you:

  • If you can relieve my concern through discussing it here, I can stop worrying about it.
  • If the two of us can't agree here, we can ask for help through Wikipedia's dispute resolution process, such as asking for a "third opinion", or requesting comments from other Wikipedians. Admins usually abide by agreements reached through this process.
  • If you decide to just go ahead and change your username, it is possible for you to keep your present contributions history under the new username: simply request a new name here following the guidelines on that page, rather than creating a whole new account.

Let me reassure you that my writing here means I don't think your username is grossly, blatantly, or obviously inappropriate; such names get reported straight to Wikipedia:Administrator intervention against vandalism (WP:AIV), or blocked on sight. This is more a case where opinions might differ, and it would be good to reach some consensus — either here or at WP:RFC/NAME. So I look forward to a friendly discussion, and to enjoying your continued participation on Wikipedia. Thank you again! -- Wirbelwindヴィルヴェルヴィント (talk) 21:49, 19 March 2007 (UTC) --Wirbelwindヴィルヴェルヴィント (talk) 21:49, 19 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] License tagging for Image:Feet.JPG

Thanks for uploading Image:Feet.JPG. Wikipedia gets thousands of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

This is an automated notice by OrphanBot. If you need help on selecting a tag to use, or in adding the tag to the image description, feel free to post a message at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. 22:09, 19 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Image copyright problem with Image:Feet.JPG

Thank you for uploading Image:Feet.JPG. However, it currently is missing information on its copyright status. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously. It may be deleted soon, unless we can determine the license and the source of the image. If you know this information, then you can add a copyright tag to the image description page.

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thanks again for your cooperation. cohesion 05:34, 1 April 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Your username

Hello, I don't mean to make you feel unwelcome, however, I have a concern with your username. Normally, I would block such a username on sight (as a violation of WP:USERNAME, where it states, "Wikipedia does not allow usernames that are misleading, promotional, offensive or disruptive."), but since you've been editing for a while now, I thought we could talk about changing your username instead of an outright block. I do see that you mentioned your rationale here, but I agree with User:Wirbelwind's statement here that your username should be changed or blocked. Useight (talk) 06:52, 12 May 2008 (UTC)

I really don't see what the issue is about, it's not misleading, promotional or disruptive. And the only entities which could possibly be offended by it are SOAPS. Bastard Soap (talk) 13:30, 12 May 2008 (UTC)

Aloha, Bastard Soap! I personally do not have a problem with your username. However, since multiple people have noted they take offense with it, I was wondering if you had any willingness to voluntarily change it. My thinking is this: 1.) it's just a username, and there are about a million other creative, funny names you could create... I'd be happy to help if needed. 2.) the community here at Wikipedia is what drives the building of the encyclopedia; without a strong community, the encyclopedia is hurt. 3.) since members of the community might be offended by your username (and either start a big dispute over your name, or might be so offended as to leave), it might lead to a weakened community.
Therefore, I would like to know if you would even be willing to change your name. If so, we can discuss the matter further, and if you decide you want to change, it is very simple at Wikipedia:Changing username, and I would be glad to help you. Please understand that no one is forcing you to change your name, and you can tell me to piss off if you want. :-) Mahalo, and thank you. --Ali'i 13:45, 13 May 2008 (UTC)

Ok piss off then ^^. You know I would change it if I saw any need to, but I kind of like my username and to be honest I think all this politically correctness is a plague of free thought and comunication. I really think it's getting out of hand, no more jobs with man in them because it's sexist and no more references to colour, it's damn annoying and pointless in my view. Have you guys heard of the movement to neuter black magic!!!! Damn ridiculous. You know what the black people have done with nigger? Now that's a way to remove the power it once had. Bastard Soap (talk) 17:19, 13 May 2008 (UTC)

Fair enough, I'm off to piss then. :-) And like I said, I personally don't have a problem with it. Mahalo. --Ali'i 18:27, 13 May 2008 (UTC)
i don't see a problem either. the word 'bastard' is not profane. most any word taken out of context, or hurled as an epithet can be taken as offensive. the username is fine. --emerson7 15:57, 13 May 2008 (UTC)
