Basel Abu Jamous

[edit] Ancestral line and tribe

He is Basel Wael Aref Ahmad Mukhaimer Mifleh Ahmad Al-Khaddam Abu Jamous (باسل وائل عارف أحمد مخيمر مفلح أحمد الخدام أبو جاموس). A branch of Al D'ajah tribe (الدعجة). Al D'ajah tribe is an extended tribe in Jordan. So famous and contains alot of families. Abu Jamous family, who are D'ajian, is the biggest D'ajian tribe. Al Jawamis (الجواميس) (i.e: Abu Jamousian) are the Mashayekh (مشايخ)(The leaders) of Al D'ajah. Some details are going to be told down about them while talking about those grandfather's of Basel.

An Arabic version of the family tree

Al-Khaddam (الخدام) is Abu Jamous. He is the father of all Jawamis. He was in Al Hejaz (western Saudi Arabia now) before more than 300 years. He traveled with two brothers of his to Bilad al-Sham (That is: Syria, Lebanon Jordan and Palestine now). Actualy they went to some spot in southern Syria. Then one of them went to Egypt, one stayed in Syria and Al-Khaddam came to Jordan. And that explains the existence of the Jawamis in Syria and Egypt.

It's said that Al-Khaddam was raising buffaloes (In Arabic: Jamous "جاموس" means a buffalo) and that's why his descendants are called Abu Jamous.

When Al-Khaddam came to Jordan he stayed in Tabarboor (a suburb of Amman) for a while. There were some other people living there. Ther were all nomads who change there place by time. He decided to find some empty place to stay in. He went to Marka which is another suburb of Amman. No people were in Marka in that time, but in some decades it was the home town of Abu Jamous family.

Mukhaimer (مخيمر) is the third grandfather of Basel. He was one of the most famous laders of the tribe. He was well-known in all official circles in Jordan. He was born around 1804 in Marka. In 1920, when the Hashimite prince Abdullah bin Al-Hussain bin Ali came from Mecca to Jordan to form an Arabic Kingdom in Bilad al-Sham just after the World War I, Al-Khaddam was one of the receptors. Mukhaimer died around 1940 after 136 years of life. Those long lives were noticed in the nomad communities. Maybe because of there healthy natural way of life.

There is a family that is called "Mukhaimer". Those are Mukhaimer's descendants. They are Abu Jamous of course, but a special branch of Abu Jamous. The hierarchical order is: Mukhaimer Abu Jamous Al D'ajah. Basel is (Basel Mukhaimer Abu Jamous), but his formal last name is (Abu Jamous). Some of Mukhaimer family members have there formal last name (Mukhaimer) not (Abu Jamous). Some of Basel's uncles are good examples on that. All of them are within the same family though.

Ahmad (أحمد) was the eldest son of Mukhaimer. It's said that he lived more than 100 years. He had two sons; Aref (عارف) and Hilal (هلال).

Aref (عارف), who is Basel's grandfather, was born in 1910 in Marka. He moved the life of his wives and sons from tents into civilized houses in 1950s. He built the first house in Marka on the top of a hill. The house is still there. From there you can see most of the capital Amman.

Aref was so famous and had many positions in the government. He was a member in the municipal council of the capital Amman. He was the biggest head of Al D'ajah in his time. He died in April 1988.

Those three big leaders Mukhaimer, Ahmad and Aref were buried in the graveyard of Marka just behind Aref's house. There names are labeled and can be visited there.

Wael (وائل), who is Basel's father, was born in Marka on May the 2nd 1957. He studied in a military schools that is (The Collage of Prince Faisal) in Amman. He studied civil engineering in the Lawrence Institute of Technology near Detroit, Michigan in the USA. He had worked in many engineering companies in Jordan before the municipality of Amman hired him in the late 1980s. He's in there until now.
