If the BBC says 1 out of 7 is a member of the Basij, why is it a gross exaggeration to say 15%? 1 out of 7 is like 14.3%, I would not call 15% a gross exaggeration then!

Well isn't this an interesting little stub for a "military unit" that consists of sending children as young as 12 at enemy machine guns armed with nothing but a Quran in the Iran-Iraq war. Making children eat bullets until the enemy runs out of ammunition. I hope someone more politically correct than I can add a little truth to this article because as the article stands now, but boy does the basij sound like a great benefits package! [edit] Vandalism

Well sourced information should not be removed from articles without good reason. I'm watching this article and if removals like this and this persist those removing it may be blocked. --Tony Sidaway 07:03, 19 March 2006 (UTC)

This also applies to inappropriate removals of items from the talk page. --Tony Sidaway 10:48, 19 March 2006 (UTC)

[edit] You are very annoying and ignorant

Listen buddy, stop changing back everything I change into the correct information. You are intentionally spreading false information in the Basij article.

That picture is a well known photoshop edit by a jewish website, I have seen this picture eBaum before.

You are talking to a personal who knows members of the Basij. First of all that picture is not of the Basij, but of the Lebanese Hezbollah, and second of all it is a photoshop edit. So stop vandalizing that page or I will complain about you.

And also stop asking me ignorant questions like, "if it's well-known, prove it". I don't know how it is at your home, but in the real world people don't document their jokes in the history books. (unsigned post by ArmanJ, moved here from Tickle me's talk page)

It's obviously pointless arguing with you, I complained with Tony Sidaway. --tickle me 08:15, 10 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] See also: Mutaween

The article describes "the prohibition of vice and the promotion of virtue in society as the 'divine policy' of the Basij", according to its commander Hejazi. Thus they qualify as Mutaween like the Committee for the Propagation of Virtue and the Prevention of Vice and the definition given at Mutaween. This is not diminished by the fact that they have other duties on top of that. --tickle me 08:12, 17 April 2006 (UTC)

That's blatant original research. Iran has no police force described as "mutaween" and furthermore the Basij are not even a police force, but a paramilitary. And not only is it bad form to reference other WP articles, the mutaween article itself lacks proper sources as regards Iran and other countries. "Mutaween" may be a proper term of designation for such a force in Saudi Arabia, but not Iran and many other countries. SouthernComfort 03:32, 18 April 2006 (UTC)
Plus, it appears that Hejazi's statement is not even properly sourced. SouthernComfort 03:34, 18 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Sources

I checked the fars news agency website, however it seems i can not search back the much older news (for the info about their task). But I did find the personnel numbers on the GlobalSecurity website. [1]

[edit] defensive attacks

What's a defensive attack? Isn't 'defensive' the opposite of 'attack'?--84.145.253.8 19:13, 24 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and the Basij?

Hello, it would be nice to get more info about the alleged special ties that Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has to the Basij militias. This topic has been mentioned in many newspapers, but I haven't found anything in-depth about it. -- 85.179.165.16 19:59, 4 March 2007 (UTC)

see wikipedia has to be based on facts and facts alons so any "allegfed information" does not count
