Bassmint Productions (record label)

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Bassmint Productions was Eminem's first rap-group. The group lasted from about 1986-1993 and consisted of four members: M&M (Eminem), Man-ix, DJ Butterfingers and Chaos Kid. All members were white and they recorded out of Man-ix's basement. Together they recorded hundreds of songs and freestyles. They always released their demos on cassettes with hand-drawn covers done by M&M, since he's always been an exceptional drawer. Known demos by the group are: Soul Intent (1990), Steppin' onto the Scene (1990) and their studio-demo The Bassmint Tapes (1994). The latter features the song "Crackers & Cheese" which has been leaked on to the internet. The other tracks remain entirely unknown, even the titles aren't known. What is known is that the tape had four tracks on it and was released through Beats-At-Will Records (an independent record-label in Detroit). Bassmint Productions is notorious for being the group Eminem (then M&M) recorded his infamous "racist tapes" with in the late 1980's. One of these tracks was a 4:44 freestyle called "Foolish Pride" and another :36 snippet simply known-as "Racist Freestyle 2". On the second freestyle M&M can be heard saying the word "Nigger". These freestyles were later sold to rap magazine The Source by a disgruntled Man-ix in 2003. The Source's owner, Raymond Benzino, went public with the freestyles and Eminem and Benzino would have a long-standing feud, ended by Eminem on his 2004 track "Like Toy Soldiers" from his multi-platinum 4th album, Encore.
