Bassmint Music, Inc., an Ohio C corporation since 2001 is an online record label and shop[1]. According to Kugel (2005), "Bassmint Music was founded with the aim of providing consumers with new independent music from artists around the world in a variety of genres. Members will be able to choose from alternative rock, drum and bass, trance, house music, electro-funk, rhythm and blues, neo soul and others. Even some former major-label acts such as Virginia rockers W(el)bilt and Ireland's Mr. North can be found among Bassmint's roster." Bassmint Music dba Caldella Music is a member of the U.S. based American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP). Bassmint Music is associated with EMI Music Publishing LTD. a member the Music Publishers Association U.K. (MPA)[2].

"Based in Columbus, Bassmint Music is the brainchild of Jerry Calliste Jr., who is also the CEO and President of Bassmint Music, Inc. and the newly formed Caldella Music Publishing company. Operating from the Web site www.bassmintmusic.com, Bassmint is an independent online record label and music publishing company that was launched Sept. 28 (Kugel, 2005b)." The company is majority owned by shareholder and American music industry executive, legendary hip hop and electro-funk songwriter, producer and music publisher Jerry Calliste Jr.[3][4]. Bassmint is popular for promoting nightclub events in the Midwest and one of the most notable is a Guess? fashion show held at Columbus, Ohio's Red Zone nightclub back in 2000 [5].

In the U.S. Bassmint Music and its CEO are very active in the communities it serves. "In addition to offering an internship cooperative with Ohio State University, he has also enacted the company's First Step Initiative, which will offer scholarships to teens who excel in and out of the classroom, giving Bassmint a chance to give back to the community (Kugel, 2005c)[6]." Bassmint Music offers both an online media & public relations and marketing curriculum to students from the University of Tampa and the University of Miami (Florida) School of Communication [7].

In the late 90's, Bassmint Music's original URL and static web site was 100megs.com/bassmintmusic/ registered through 100Megs.com (now 100Megswebhosting.com). On July 26, 1999 Bassmint Music's web address changed when Jerry Calliste Jr. registered the domain name Bassmintmusic.com with Network Solutions[8]. On September 28, 2005 Bassmint Music officially launched its newly transformed and first version e-commerce store Bassmintmusic.com[9](beta v1.0). As of March 9, 2006 Bassmint Music's official web site separated from Bassmintmusic.com and is now www.bmmi.biz[10].
