Bassim Al-Karbalaei

Bassim Ismail Mohammed Karbalaei (1967 - ) is one of the most famous Shia eulogy reciters. He was born in Karbala, Iraq in 1967 where he lived until 1980. During this time, he participated in processions in Karbala which were held in mourning of the prophet Muhammad (a.s.) and Ahl al-Bayt (people of the household [of the prophet]), who Shi'as view highly of. He than lived in Isfahan, Iran, were he began learning how to read Qu'ran which helped soften and improve his voice. He has read thousands of poetries regarding Muhammad and his Ahl al-Bayt both in mourning and celebration of them. He has recited in Kuwait, Iraq, Bahrain, Iran, Lebanon, Syria, Sweden, Holland and London, UK.
He mostly recites poetry from the poet Jabir Al Kathemi, and has recorded several albums, whilst mosques he has recited in have recorded his recitations and sold them. He can be heard via the internet and he is often shown reciting on Arabic Shia television channels, such as Al Forat, Al Anwar, AhlulBayt Channel and Zahra TV.
He is married and has one son and two daughters. It's known that his first son 'Mohammed' died of sickness before reaching one year of age. He is living in Kuwait which is where he most commonly recites.
