In the Basque Regional Election of 2005 the PNV-EA (Basque Nationalists) won 29 seats (4 less than in the previous elections), the Socialists came second with 18 seats (an increase of 5 seats), the PP (Popular Party) third with 15 seats (compared to 19 in the last elections). The controversial EHAK won 9 seats.[1]
