The Basque Country may refer to one of three areas inhabited by Basque people:

  • The Basque Country (historical territory) (Euskal Herria), the area which Basque nationalists seek independence for including all the territories were Basque is spoken. It is formed by the Spanish provinces of Araba, Gipuzkoa, Biscay (Bizkaia), Navarre (Nafarroa), and the French provinces of Baxe-Nafarroa, Lapurdi and Zuberoa.
  • The Basque Country (autonomous community) (Hegoalde, Comunidad Autonoma Vasca, Euskadi or País Vasco), the southern part of Euskal Herria, an autonomous community of Spain, composed with Gipuzkoa, Biscay (Bizkaia) and Araba.
  • The Northern Basque Country (Iparralde or Pays Basque), the northern part of Euskal Herria, in France, with Lapurdi, Baxe-Nafarroa and Zuberoa.
