Basim Ismail Al-Karbalaei is a Shiite artist born in Karbala, Iraq in 1967. He grew up in Karbala city until 1980, and then he moved with his family to Esfahan, Iran because of Baath Party that was controlling the government of Iraq that time.

The quiet tone of his voice and the phenomenal performance are the secrets of his success. He perfects performing songs in formal and informal Arabic.
He used to be a fan of Mulla Hamza Al-Zeghayer, a big artist in the holy city of Karbala, and he wished that someday he will be able to sing just like him. He started pursuing his dream by learning how to read Koran for five years, and that helped him to make his voice better.
After years of training, his brothers and uncles encouraged him to be an artist to serve Imam Husain and the pure family of Prophet Mohammad. He learned religious singing from Mulla Taqi Al-Karbalaei, and he gave him the opportunity to perform some songs in religious ceremonies. People liked his voice and performance, and they said he reminds them of Mulla Hamza Al-Zeghayer.
