Basile Ikouébé

Basile Ikouébé (born 1 July 1946[1]) is the current Minister of Foreign Affairs and La Francophonie of the Republic of the Congo. He was named to the position on 31 May 2007, replacing Rodolphe Adada. Previously, Ikouébé was Permanent Representative of the Republic of the Congo to the United Nations. He is a member of the ruling Congolese Labour Party.[2]
After holding posts at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ikouébé was Diplomatic Advisor to President Denis Sassou Nguesso from 1982 to 1992, then Ambassador-at-large from 1994 to 1995, and Secretary to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs from 1996 to 1998. He became Permanent Representative to the UN on December 11, 1998.[1] As Permanent Representative, he served as President of the United Nations Security Council in May 2006.[3]
