Base end station
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Base end station is a structure built into a cliffside facing a body of water and used to triangulate positions of ships with other similar stations scattered throughout the area.[1] Once these base end stations establish ship positions coastal artillery may proceed to bombard those ships to prevent attacks upon coastal positions.

[edit] Base end Stations Today
Base end stations no longer exist except as ruins subject to the attention of tour groups.[2] One such example resides at Muir Beach Overlook.
Radar replaced base end stations' ship locating function.[3]
