Basavaraja Devaru

Sri Basavaraja Devaru is the head of the Dharwad based Mansur Sri Revana Siddeshwara Mutt. The Mutt follows Shaivism based on the teachings of Revana Siddheshwara a Veerashiva saint from North Karnataka, India.

The swamiji is one of the leading figures in Karnataka today fighting for the rights of Backward Classes and Dalits. He is playing an important role in creating awareness among the people of the North Karnataka.

[edit] Kanaka Gopura Sangharsha Yatra

Sri Basavaraja Devaru took out a "Kanaka Gopura Sangarsha Yatra" in the year 2004 to protest against the demolition of Kanaka Gopura at the Udupi Mutt. The yatra went through all the districts of Karnataka before culminating at Udupi. The swamiji was arrested in the process when he and his supporters tried to enter Udupi. The agitation by him prompted the Government of Karnataka to take over the temple of Udupi Sri Krishna.
