My RfA

Thank you very much for your support for my admin application, which recently closed successfully (36/3/1). I hope I can continue to justify the confidence that you have placed in me. I am bout to upload your cropped version of the image "Ian_Paisley.JPG" to wiki commons, but the original uncroped version is no longer available on the wiki. Perhaps, you could upload it to wikicommons. Snowman (talk) 22:25, 4 March 2008 (UTC)

The camera data indicates that the photo taken on 14 May 2007. Is this correct? Snowman (talk) 22:53, 4 March 2008 (UTC)

Thank you muchly for your support in my recent request for adminship, which was successfully closed on 76%, finishing at 73 supports, 23 opposes and 1 neutral. The supports were wonderful, and I will keep in mind the points made in the useful opposes and try to suppress the Larry David in me! Now I'm off to issue some cool down blocks, just to get my money's worth!

Kidding btw. All the best, Deacon of Pndapetzim (Talk) 11:27, 5 March 2008 (UTC)

Welcome

Hi, I'd like to say welcome to Wikipedia:WikiProject politics of the United Kingdom! This project has only just been set up, so you may want to help with setting up tasks or the project page, or just help with any of the current tasks. Have a good day =) Rossenglish (talk) 20:29, 7 March 2008 (UTC)

Help? (If you can)

Hey. I saw you created images for the South Londonderry and Antrim seats in the old N I parliament. I've recently written the article for East Tyrone and wondered if you could do an image for it?. Would be very grateful Totalitariandemocrat (talk) 23:27, 27 March 2008 (UTC)

Yeah I will create a map and sorry ment to reply sooner --Barryob (Contribs) (Talk) 21:10, 28 March 2008 (UTC)
The user making the request has now changed his username to something I forget in order to avoid several indefinite blocks. He claims to have now repented. Big Brother watches nonetheless.Traditional unionist (talk) 16:33, 31 March 2008 (UTC)
I see, ah well will still finsh the rest of the maps in due course. --Barryob (Contribs) (Talk) 16:37, 31 March 2008 (UTC)

You've changed my signature

Why did you do so on Scotland's talk page? Tomeasy (talk) 16:53, 29 March 2008 (UTC)

Apologies not sure how I managed to do that. --Barryob (Contribs) (Talk) 16:56, 29 March 2008 (UTC)

Assembly Constituency Maps

You've uploaded a map which is used to illustrate the Welsh Assembly constituency of ceredigion. The map shows the constituency of Carmarthen West and South Pembrokeshire, and is a duplicate of its map. Ceredigion is the coastal constituency in the centre of the image. 86.130.167.239 (talk) 15:45, 31 March 2008 (UTC)

Mediation for Scotland article

As an agreement between editors at Scotland seems ever more unlikely, some users have decided to contact mediation. However, mediation require the acceptance of all involved parties. Would you be willing to accept? Thanks for your compliance...--Cameron (t|p|c) 21:02, 1 April 2008 (UTC)

Neilston

Looking at the edit history of Ima Hogg, I'm dreading Neilston being on the main page tomorrow! Thanks for the nudge/edit about the regional consituency though. Much appreciated. :) --Jza84 |  Talk  23:31, 1 April 2008 (UTC)

Scotland maps

Hello Barybob! Can you contribute to the discussion on the Scottish map page please?♦Drachenfyre♦·Talk 21:26, 9 April 2008 (UTC)

Sorry but I gave up on that a long time ago far to much pov. --Barryob (Contribs) (Talk) 21:31, 9 April 2008 (UTC)

Agreed!

I think we actually agree on something for once (at Wales!)! Great stuff!... actually, I was hoping to ask your thoughts on something I'm putting together at User:Jza84/Sandbox1. It's a possible extension to the lead section of the Scotland article. As we tend to have alternative perspectives on things, I was wondering if your input might make a draft lead more "palletable" to more folk? --Jza84 |  Talk  22:29, 9 April 2008 (UTC)

Scotland

Hello Barrybob, I have come up with an idea at Scotland talk page and would like an opinion from you. I might be a little naive but I felt I had to try! --Jack forbes (talk) 12:13, 16 April 2008 (UTC)

Ireland

Just wondering what the story is with you. You're a member of WikiProject_Unionism_in_Ireland yet you say you support a United Ireland?.Wikipéire (talk) 20:14, 19 April 2008 (UTC)

Wikiprojects are not political groupings they are there to help improve articles on a specific subject. --Barryob (Contribs) (Talk) 20:25, 19 April 2008 (UTC)

Old Flag of France

Hello. Please don't enter the royal standard () as national flag of the Kingdom of France. Its national flag was the white Drapeau blanc (), not the lily banner (see articles about the flag of France in the anglophone, francophone, German, etc. wikipedia). Thank you. Louis88 (talk) 12:58, 13 April 2008 (UTC)

It was the national flag of the Kingdom of France during the Bourbon Restoration see [1] --Barryob (Contribs) (Talk) 13:15, 13 April 2008 (UTC)
Why then doen the 1820 painting "Surrender of Lord Cornwallis" show the white flag as flag of France instead of the lily banner? I doesn't seem to be the white naval ensign here... Louis88 84.131.233.202 (talk) 15:03, 13 April 2008 (UTC)

Its possible that the white flag was the only one available or the painter got it wrong. --Barryob (Contribs) (Talk) 15:08, 13 April 2008 (UTC)

Well, that seem's to be more theoretical than my explanation... ;-) I'd like to know where the author of that page has got the information from that the lily banner was the Restoration's flag... Louis88 84.131.223.73 (talk) 08:14, 14 April 2008 (UTC)

Could you give some other evidence? Everything I've read before says that the pre-revolutionaty AND the restored Bourbon monarchy hat the white drapeau as national flag. Louis88 84.131.183.157 (talk) 18:49, 14 April 2008 (UTC)
As France was an Absolute Monarchy under the Bourbons, particularly with Louis XIV, in which France was the personal possession of the king (encapsulated in the possibly apocryphal, but nevertheless indicative, quote by Louis XIV: "L'État est Moi"), the Royal Flag of France should be used for the period 1624-1789. The Fleur de Lís of the ruling Bourbon family imposed on the white field of that flag demonstrates this. The idea of a 'national flag' predominating a royal flag at this time is an anachronism as the modern Nationalism idea of the French nation only comes into existence during the revolution. Wars during this period could only be conducted at the behest of the king of France, not the nation of France.Tttom1 (talk) 14:04, 22 April 2008 (UTC)

"Flags of France, 1682-1763. LaSalle planted the white flag of the Bourbon kings of France at the mouth of the Mississippi River in 1682, and Iberville made the settlement at Ocean Springs under the same flag in 1699. Three golden fleurs-de-lis appeared on nearly all the Bourbon flags, though sometimes it was entirely white. The blue field of the French flag had officially disappeared by royal decree of Louis XIV in 1659." Similarly: http://www.tfdc.org/FrenchFlags.htm
It appears there were at least 4 flags in general use: 1. White field with 3 gold fleur de lís( changed from the Valois dynasty blue field), 2. White field with many fleurs and the royal coat of arms in center, 3. White field with many fluers, 4. Plain white field. Adding to the general confusion, the royal french army carried a number of flags with each regiment having 2 colors, at least: the regimental color (drapeau d'ordonnonce) and a colonel's color( drapeau-colonel), the colonel's color is usually a white cross on a white field and there may have been similar all white flags for generals - this may account for the flag in the painting above. This plate shows some variations of white colonel's flags of swiss regts in french service: http://digitalgallery.nypl.org/nypldigital/dgdisplaylargemeta.cfm?strucID=589359&imageID=1236663&parent_id=585401&word=&s=&notword=&d=&c=&f=&sScope=&sLevel=&sLabel=&lword=&lfield=&num=48&imgs=12&total=63&pos=60&snum=Tttom1 (talk) 15:57, 22 April 2008 (UTC)

Och aye the noo

I have removed your speedy delete tag (and, apologies, I rollbacked when I should have used an edit summary) because the article does have context. If you believe that the article should be deleted (non notable, Wikipedia's not a dictionary, whatever) feel free to take it to AfD. J Milburn (talk) 16:54, 20 April 2008 (UTC)

Lib Dem colours

Baaryob I've left the discussion up at both locations for over six months for anyone to give their opinions. All those given where that the same colour should be used for all Liberal Democrats and that the correct one was in use. If you wish to change this by all means start a new discussion at either the Scotish Liberal Democrats page or the Parliamentary projects page. - Galloglass 14:42, 26 April 2008 (UTC)

Barryob if you wish to change it, the correct way forward is to continue the discussion at Talk:Scottish Liberal Democrats rather than taking unilateral action. I hope you will do so. Thanks - Galloglass 13:55, 27 April 2008 (UTC)
There was no reply to my response on the talk page. --Barryob (Contribs) (Talk) 15:19, 27 April 2008 (UTC)
Having been working 12 hour days for the past 3 days, I'm afraid I don't really have time between sleeping and working at the moment. I'd appreciate it if you would restart the discussion on either of the current 2 locations as starting a third strikes me as unnecessary. Thanks - Galloglass 23:20, 29 April 2008 (UTC)
Have no un-archived the discussion here: Wikipedia talk:WikiProject UK Parliament constituencies and I hope you will take up some of the points made there. Thanks - Galloglass 23:32, 29 April 2008 (UTC)
