[edit] Signing VFDs

Hello! just to tell you, you should sign all VFDs with 4 tildes (like ~~~~ that see WP:SIG) otherwise, welcome to Wikipedia and have fun with your edits! If you have any more questions, you can contact me on my talk page. SasquatchTalkContributions 23:05, Jun 15, 2005 (UTC)

One more quick thing, you might want to read Wikipedia:Guide to Votes for deletion for more information on the process. You should label your votes Keep or Delete and if you have an extra comment, please label it Comment: or something like that. Thanks! SasquatchTalkContributions 23:14, Jun 15, 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Doctored photo

Hi, I just wanted to let you know that Image:Mission-accomplished-thanksgiving.jpg was doctored to insert the "Mission Accomplished" banner. The original image is available to compare: [1]. I'm not sure where you found the picture but you may want to let them know that it's not real. Rhobite 02:59, July 27, 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Ray Rayner

Awesome! Now let's really test your memory: In the late 1950s, WGN-TV ran a late-afternoon show featuring Bugs Bunny cartoons, and also a live host named Dick Coughlin, who talked to a Bugs Bunny puppet that "lived" in a tree... kind of a variant on the Garfield Goose schtick. If you remember those shows, you're hiding your age well.  :) Wahkeenah 22:49, 27 July 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Redirects

Hi, I noticed the pages you made that were variations of "Will it play in Peoria?". To make a redirect, enter on the top of the page:

[edit] American Pop Culture

When adding names, be sure to use the sort order so the names show up correctly. It's usually American Pop Culture|namename, firstname. Vegaswikian 21:40, 3 August 2005 (UTC)

  • I'll be asking a question on the CfD shortly. Vegaswikian 23:13, 3 August 2005 (UTC)
  • Thanks. I know I added alot to this category, but I tried to make it representational, tying different appropriate content elements together. Like I said if our work can be removed somewhat arbitrarily people will be less inclined to make the effort to enhance the site. But I will go back and make all the changes. Barrettmagic 16:27 3 August 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Rapping is a part of American pop culture?

How is rapping a part of American pop culture, and singing is not? Everybody raps all over the world. I'd think you'd want to add that category to the article on hip hop, and not to this article. --FuriousFreddy 02:12, 4 August 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Re: James Brown (musician)

In serious need of TLC it is. It'll have to wait until the weekend, though. BTW, I nominated the Category:American Pop Culture at CfD not to delete it, but to have it renamed to Cateory:American pop culture as per the Wikipedia Manual of Style. It looks like they're finding that it's a bit too broad to be maintainable (which, truth be told, it is; it could also be seen as being Anglo-American centric as well). --FuriousFreddy 17:23, 4 August 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Wikipedia:WikiProject Albums

You seem to have reintroduced the single here. Are you aware that there's also a Wikipedia:WikiProject Songs? It took me a while to realise it was there. Flowerparty talk 19:31, 10 August 2005 (UTC)

Thank you for pointing that out - both sides were incomplete, and gosh it was hard to kind the key. Noticed some inconsistencies so i went in to clean up - thanks for pointing out the extra table. though it doesnt seem to include a couple other single categories, like the lightblue for 12" MAXI singles. Barrettmagic 12:20 10 August 2005 (UTC)
True, there are no separate colour for 45s, etc. I think the problem with that is that most singles are released in several formats: 7", 12", cd1, cd2 and so forth. So it's not really possible to classify singles like that. I'll add a link to the songs project. Flowerparty talk 19:46, 10 August 2005 (UTC)
You responded saying there shouldnt be additional color codes for singles. Too late :) - they already have been.
(see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Like_a_Virgin_%28song%29) I didn't make the color code, but it made sense so I added it to the album table (see Madonna's MAXI Single list for example - (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Like_a_Virgin_%28song%29) all in lightblue.
so they all need to be adjusted to yellow, or this additional category which seems to be in place needs to be promoted. :) Barrettmagic 12:29 10 August 2005 (UTC)
Are you sure the box is blue for that reason. Often people just assume there's no official policy for deciding which colour to use and pick one that they like instead. I'm assuming Like a Prayer (song) is such a case. If you think the policy needs changing I guess you could suggest this on Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Songs. Flowerparty talk 20:12, 10 August 2005 (UTC)
That should have been Like a Virgin (song), sorry. Flowerparty talk 20:15, 10 August 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Yellow Submarine

You shouldn't do copy and paste moves of articles to change the title - that way the history of the article gets split between two pages (see [2] and [3]). Instead use the move button at the top of the page! sjorford →•← 22:15, 10 August 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Re. Casino Royale

Disambig pages are fine for certain articles that have more than one meaning; however, in the case of Casino Royale, every ambiguous meaning is an adaptation of Ian Fleming's novel. So if you type in Casino Royale, you should get the book. Right off the bat in the intro it 1) uses {{otheruses}} that links to a disambiguation page with other meanings for "Casino Royale", this is used on a number of pages (including GoldenEye, which has a number of meanins - most of them relating to Ian Fleming) and 2) it clearly states the others meanings (adaptations) and actually links to them in the intro as well. I think because of those two and the fact that the page is kind of set up like an overview article now, that it's easy to navigate and better than having "Casino Royale" as a disambig page. It is for the best, at least IMHO, that the 1967 spoof was moved to its own page. I don't disagree with that move. In fact I was planning to get around to it, most likely later in the year when I have time to write up more background on Casino Royale - it being the foundings of Bond and technically based on a real-life happening, although heavily embellished. [edit] Re: James Brown (musician)

Check the page. How's that for an expansion? --FuriousFreddy 23:00, 18 August 2005 (UTC)

Yeah, we should definitely split it up. I put that list together automatically; we should go back and leave all the R&B top ten singles on the main page, and port the rest and the albums to a James Brown discography page. --FuriousFreddy 09:40, 19 August 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Updated Welcome

Welcome!

Welcome to Wikipedia! My name is Barrett, aka Barrettmagic.

I noticed that you were new and haven't received any messages yet. I just wanted to see how you were doing. Wikipedia can be a little intimidating at first, since it uses different formatting than other sites that use HTML and CSS. In the long run, though, you'll find that the WikiSyntax is a lot easier and faster than those other ways. Here are a few links to get you started:

There are a lot of policies and guides to read, but I highly recommend reading over these first.

If you have any questions, feel free to leave me a message on my Barrettmagic talk page. Please be sure to sign your name on Talk Pages using four tildes (~~~~) to produce your name and the current date, along with a link to your user page. This way, others know when you left a message and how to find you. It's easier than having to type out your name!

I hope you enjoy contributing to Wikipedia. We can use all the help we can get! -- Barrettmagic 20:20, 31 August 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Jeri Ryan images

Hi, sorry for being a pain, but if you want to claim images as fair use you need to list a source. Wikipedia:Fair use#Justification for fair use AlistairMcMillan 02:10, 2 September 2005 (UTC)

Thanks for working on this, but I don't think your sources are correct. Image:Jryan10.jpg was printed in North Shore magazine [4] in 1998 and Flair magazine [5] in 1999, so I don't think they are the property of CBS. The other image, of Jeri in costume, I can't find at the startrek.com link you provided. Sorry to keep bugging you but I'd like us to have images for that page that don't get deleted like previously ones. AlistairMcMillan 18:55, 2 September 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Bo Derek

Hello. I removed two of the pictures because four images in such a brief article was too many and made the page look like a gecocities fan site. I see your point that a recent picture might be more relevant: I'd suggest that the 1990 image is replaced by the 2000photograph. The 10 photograph is iconic, so I'd like to see that stay. I left a message on the talk page before I did anything, but no one responded after a few days. , so I was bold. The JPS 15:54, 3 September 2005 (UTC)

Additionally, those images might need to be deleted anyway because of lack of copyright information. When you tag something as fair use, you also need to assert on the image description page a) your source and, b}, your reasons for believing it is fair use. The JPS 15:58, 3 September 2005 (UTC)
Thanks The JPS - looks like they are putting more scrutiny on pics - easily backed up, and ill add the sourcing/justification info as requesed. id like to reformat the page abit, include a current image in a way thats not so pic heavy -- Barrettmagic 16:00, 3 September 2005 (UTC)

[edit] License tagging for Image:Arrogantmenswear.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Arrogantmenswear.jpg. Wikipedia gets hundreds of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

[edit] Unspecified source for Image:Onj.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Onj.jpg. I notice the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you have not created this file yourself, then there needs to be an argument why we have the right to use it on Wikipedia (see copyright tagging below). If you did not create the file yourself, then you need to specify where it was found, i.e., in most cases link to the website where it was taken from, and the terms of use for content from that page.

If the file also doesn't have a copyright tag, then one should be added. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as {{Non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair_use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. [edit] Image tagging for Image:Kchesney1.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Kchesney1.jpg. The image has been identified as not specifying the source and creator of the image, which is required by Wikipedia's policy on images. If you don't indicate the source and creator of the image on the image's description page, it may be deleted some time in the next seven days. If you have uploaded other images, please verify that you have provided source information for them as well.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

[edit] Image:Talkingheads2.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Talkingheads2.jpg. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the image description page and edit it to add {{Replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace the fair use image by finding a freely licensed image of its subject or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that any fair use images which are replaceable by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. --Chowbok 19:27, 12 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] short-haired Lennon

hi - do you happen to know the approximate timeframe and circumstance of the photo you uploaded of John Lennon? Someone added a caption at some point (maybe it was you, actually- I didn't check back in history) that it was 1970 after cutting his hair for charity - can you confirm that? thanks - and thanks for contributing the pic Tvoz 20:52, 4 December 2006 (UTC)

The photo I am talking about here is Image:Jlennon2.jpg - I'm not a wiki photo cop, just want to make sure the caption we;re using on John Lennon is correct. Thanks for any info you can provide - the source link didn't work when I tried it last month. Thx. Tvoz | talk 06:48, 10 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Orphaned fair use image (Image:Rstones6.jpg)

Thanks for uploading Image:Rstones6.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable under fair use (see our fair use policy).

[edit] Unspecified source for Image:Gdead1.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Gdead1.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, then you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, then their copyright should also be acknowledged.

As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self-no-disclaimers}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as {{Non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 00:58, 13 April 2007 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. BigDT 00:58, 13 April 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Fair use rationale for Image:B52s3.jpg

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:B52s3.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. [edit] Orphaned non-free image (Image:Bdarin2.jpg)

Thanks for uploading Image:Bdarin2.jpg. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BetacommandBot 19:47, 23 July 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Divet bowl

A proposed deletion template has been added to the article Divet bowl, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice should explain why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page. Also, please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. If you agree with the deletion of the article, and you are the only person who has made substantial edits to the page, please add {{db-author}} to the top of Divet bowl. [edit] Replaceable fair use Image:Jt2.jpg

Replaceable fair use

Thanks for uploading Image:Jt2.jpg. I noticed the description page specifies that the media is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed media could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this media is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the media description page and edit it to add {{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace the fair use media by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, fair use media which could be replaced by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if not used in an article), per our Fair Use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. High on a tree (talk) 04:45, 5 December 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Disputed fair use rationale for Image:Vm1.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Vm1.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you. Ricky81682 (talk) 09:05, 19 December 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Image source problem with Image:Bwilson2.jpg

Image Copyright problem

Thanks for uploading Image:Bwilson2.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, their copyright should also be acknowledged.

As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use.

[edit] Image source problem with Image:Bwilson3.jpg

Image Copyright problem

Thanks for uploading Image:Bwilson3.jpg.

See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

[edit] Orphaned non-free media (Image:Nr2.jpg)

Thanks for uploading Image:Nr2.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 12:05, 16 March 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Image:Lmbradley.jpg

I have tagged Image:Lmbradley.jpg as {{no rationale}}, because it does not provide a fair use rationale. If you believe the image to be acceptable for fair use according to Wikipedia policy, please provide a rationale explaining as much, in accordance with the fair use rationale guideline, on the image description page. Some examples can be found at Wikipedia:Use rationale examples. Please also consider using {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags/Non-free. Thank you. Rettetast (talk) 13:46, 12 April 2008 (UTC)
