[edit] Background

The game merges the existing universe of the Simpsons with the fairy tale of Jack and the Beanstalk. The player who controls the character Bart Simpson goes to market to sell the family cow, but is swindled by a clever miser (played in the game by the character Mr. Burns). When Bart takes the magic beans home his father Homer Simpson accidentally eats them and spits them outside. The beanstalk grows, Bart climbs to the top, and adventures in a giant castle ensue. The game is a platform game much like every other Simpsons game released in the early 1990s.

[edit] Weapons and Items

  • Slingshot
    • Bart Simpson's trademark weapon is the almighty slingshot. In this game is serves as the primary weapon, and can be powered up by picking up black marbles scattered through the stages.
  • Paper plane
    • Paper planes are unusually strong in the context of this game: one can kill an enemy where it usually takes two slingshot hits. These are useful for boss enemies.
  • Dynamite
    • The rare sticks of dynamite can destroy every enemy on the screen with one explosion.
  • Gold coins
    • The majority of the stages require Bart to collect a certain number of gold coins before moving on to the next stage.
  • Golden egg
    • This hard to find item grants temporary invincibility to Bart.
  • Giant's items
    • In the "Giant's Closet" stage Bart must find the Golden Goose, magical harp, and money bag in order to complete the stage and move on.

[edit] Game stages

  • Up The Beanstalk
    • The adventure begins as Bart climbs the mighty beanstalk. Giant (albeit easy to beat) bugs will populate the thorny vines, but a rather familiar giant beetle at the end will require the use of more than just the slingshot.
  • Outside The Castle
    • Much platform-hopping abounds in this path to the castle. Lightning and missiles will be the main obstacles outside of difficult jumps and the storm cloud boss resembling another Simpsons character Montgomery Burns.
  • Giant's Cupboard
    • Rats patrol the shelves of the giant's cupboard, lit by the flickering candles that are also meant to hurt Bart as he looks for gold coins.
  • Soup Du Jour
    • Bart has landed right in the giant's soup! He must avoid the salt shaker while jumping from meatball to meatball to collect the coins.
  • Giant's Closet
    • The dark closet isn't enough to hide Bart when fireflies and a tricky candle reveal his location to the giant. Here he must avoid the rats, collect the giant's valuables and get to the end before a giant hand squashes him to bits.
  • Escape From The Castle
    • With treasures in hand Bart must escape from the castle back through the clouds and platforms outside. Allowing the giant to get too close means a large thumb on the noggin.
  • Down The Beanstalk
    • The final stretch! Bart's resourceful nature leads him to use an old bag as a parachute to fly down through the tangled vines of the beanstalk, but can he make it down before the giant finds him? Game tip: follow the coins to navigate the twisting paths.
