[edit] Spelling of country name
I have gone back and forth whether the nation he rules is spelled Ünderland or Ünterland. Is there an official source? - DynSkeet * Talk 15:33, 13 July 2006 (UTC)
Yeah it's Ünderland, and his name is Verner as stated in subtitles and captions. I don't know how to change the article title. U1gitaroofever 15:00, 16 July 2006 (UTC)
- Hm. I just checked the Adult Swim page for VB (I know it isn't exactly an unquestionable source), and it shows "Underland" and "Werner". Interestingly, they don't use the umlauts in any words. Where did they come from? - DynSkeet * Talk 15:09, 16 July 2006 (UTC)
- Okay, just re-watched "Home Insecurity." Didn't see any reference to his first name (I'll check "Past Tense" next), but the credits clearly show "Ünderbheit" (and his logo is clearly a U with an umlaut over it, on his henchmen's uniforms as well as the clasp for his cloak). I'd say to leave the article as "Werner" for now, but if we can positively verify that it is "Verner", then I'll move the article accordingly. - DynSkeet * Talk 15:52, 16 July 2006 (UTC)

- If the language is a spoof on the German language, then "Werner" makes sense. -th1rt3en 15:54, 16 July 2006 (UTC)

- Which would, of course, be pronounced "Verner". And sure enough, in "Past Tense" the captions read "Verner", although I have seen very obvious mistakes in captions and subtitles before. Hm. Really not sure which way to go on this one... can we get a consensus of some kind? - DynSkeet * Talk 16:23, 16 July 2006 (UTC)

- I would say go by what's used in the closing credits. An upcoming episode looks to be etntirely devoted to "Unterland" and may provide more detailed information. -th1rt3en 21:04, 16 July 2006 (UTC)

- The problem is they only credit him as "Baron Ünderbheit" and never spell out his first name. The captions/subtitles are not entirely reliable, since they come from people listening to the audio rather than directly from the writers or producers. Not sure how this Werner/Verner thing will be reconciled. - DynSkeet * Talk 22:47, 16 July 2006 (UTC)

- So I watched the credits which aren't informative. it appears as though I'm incorrect. In "Past Tense" pete calls him verner, but that could just be a mispronuciation as the websites note him as Werner My apologies U1gitaroofever 01:53, 18 July 2006 (UTC)

Check the character section on the [AS] Venture Bros. page. It says Baron (Werner) Underbheit. -th1rt3en 23:45, 18 July 2006 (UTC)
- AS isn't totally reliable... they spell Molotov as "Molatov" in the character list and spell it right in the mini-bio. - DynSkeet * Talk 12:22, 19 July 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Ünderland
It needs to be specified that Ünderland is not in Europe, and borders Michigan.
- Is Ünderland a play on Hell, Michigan? Although only a small town, it would seem logical that Ünderland, which indeed itself seems very hellish, could infact be Hell, Michigan, or a play on it. Should this be noted somewhere in the description of Ünderland? Konraden88 05:39, 11 April 2007 (UTC)
[edit] More Similarity to Apocalypse
It may be worth noting that Underbheit's characterization more closely resembles the 1990s animated X-Men TV show version of Apocalypse (especially in the vocalization). His bald head, body build and costume also seem more reminiscent of Apocalypse, and his metal jaw calls to mind Apocalypse's jaw deformity. I agree that Underbheit's backstory and some elements of the costume do relate to Dr. Doom, however. --142.179.232.31 05:48, 19 September 2006 (UTC)
- I dunno. He reminds me more of Darth Malak, especially his lower jaw.
Except that KOTR came out after Underbheit. I've removed the reference.
- No it didn't. First episode with Underbheit was in 2004. KOTOR came out in Mid 2003. 128.227.105.242 16:45, 24 September 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Darth Malak
Does anyone think he might be a parody of Darth Malak. They are similar right down to the red suit and cape and metal jaw.Muldoon X9 (talk) 03:10, 30 March 2008 (UTC)
- It's been discussed before. Dates are inconsistent. TH1RT3EN talk ♦ contribs 03:25, 30 March 2008 (UTC)
