[edit] Rewrite

I've given the article a quick polish. Not perfect, but a decent base for further work I hope. Can anyone add citations for some of the many unreferenced facts remaining - I particularly marked a few wanting dates, e.g. in which year was the harbour fitted with lock gates, in which year did the fish market move, and in which year did the Sutton Pool developments start?  —SMALLJIM  14:52, 28 November 2007 (UTC)
