Separation of Hue, Saturation and Lightness components of an image represented in the HSL color space.

On top is the original image, followed by Hue, Saturation and Lightness in that order.

Generated using my own program.

For each pixel of the shown Hue Component:

  • Hue=Hue of the image
  • Saturation=100% (to show the full saturation of each hue)
  • Lightness=50% (100% Lightness would just give white)

For each pixel of the shown Saturation Component:

  • Hue=360° - Pure Red (no particular reason)
  • Saturation=Saturation of the image
  • Lightness=50%

For each pixel of the shown Lightness Component:

  • Hue=360° - Pure Red
  • Saturation=100% (gives best contrast)
  • Lightness=Lightness of the image
