Category:Baroque instruments
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Many instruments evolved or were invented during the Baroque period of European classical music, which fell out of popular use after this period. Most commonly, as the Baroque focus on quiet chamber music faded, and larger, louder orchestral works were composed, quieter instruments were discarded in favor of louder counterparts. The violin family for example, is a standard part of the modern orchestra, while the viol family is almost extinct. These instruments, and replicas thereof, have been revived since the 20th century in the early music revival movement.
