Barys Astana is a Kazakh professional ice hockey team that was competing in the Russian Vysshaya Liga but will begin play in the Continental Hockey League (KHL) in the fall of 2008. The team will play in the Alatau Sports Palace which currently holds 5,332 people but is reportedly under modifications to raise the capacity to or above the KHL requirements.

Barys Astana was formed in 1999 and began to play in the 2001-2002 season. The team played solely in the Kazakhstani Championship until 2007 in which the team moved to the Vysshaya Liga. After spending the 2007-2008 season in the Vysshaya Liga, Barys Astana applied to join and were accepted into the Continental Hockey League.
