As of 1991 Bangladesh census[1], Barura has a population of 310778. Males constitute are 50.05% of the population, and females 49.95%. This Upazila's eighteen up population is 148203. Barura has an average literacy rate of 31.8% (7+ years), and the national average of 32.4% literate. [2]
