Barton Peveril is a sixth form college located in Eastleigh, Hampshire, UK with about 2200 students. Its primary focus is the last two years of secondary education, from 16 to 18. Its focus is academic, preparation for tertiary education, as opposed to a vocational focus for employment in the workforce.
Barton Peveril College has recently completed a £7million building project which has provided purpose built facilities for Sport, Drama, Dance, Music, Media and English.
Barton Peveril was one of the first colleges in Hampshire to be awarded Beacon Status. This was in recognition of an outstanding OFSTED report which praised the high quality of teaching and learning at Barton. The most recent inspection of the college by OFSTED, Barton Peveril was judged to be outstanding in the academic achievement and standards of its students:
“ | Students aged 16-18 of all abilities make excellent progress on GCE A level courses. | ” |
The college holds several trips each year on their annual "trips week" - to New York, Costa Rica, Barcelona, Belgium and more. The actor Colin Firth attended Barton Peveril.
The school was originally a state grammar school. The last intake of grammar school students was in 1972. From that moment forward, it began to bring in sixth form students only.
