Barry McKenzie

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Barry McKenzie or Bazza McKenzie is a fictional character originally created by the Australian comedian Barry Humphries for a comic strip, written by Humphries and drawn by Nicholas Garland, in the magazine Private Eye. They were filmed with Barry Crocker as Barry McKenzie.

He helped popularize Australian slang and culture in Britain, although much of the allegedly Australian slang was created by Humphries himself.

Many of the terms were euphemisms for bodily functions (toilet humour) or sexual allusions.

McKenzie's most memorable euphemism is for the act of vomiting, a technicolour yawn. Others are: parking the tiger, splashing the boots, draining the dragon, shaking hands with the wife's best friend, the one-eyed trouser snake and beating the JBoxer.
