Barry Hyde was a fictional character on the Australian soap opera Home and Away, portrayed by Ivar Kants from 2004 to 2006.

Barry arrived in Summer Bay in episode 3672 as the new principal of Summer Bay High, taking over from Sally Fletcher who had succeeded Paris Burnett, the previous principal. (Paris had been forced to resign his position in order to assume guardianship of his nephew and niece, whose parents had been killed in a car crash.) Barry's teenage son, Kim, also arrived with him. The two had had a difficult relationship, but later came to work out their differences.
Barry found love with Irene Roberts in 2005, but later on the year, they broke up, yet remained friends. As Barry moved out from the Beach House, he was devastated when Kim wanted to find out about his estranged mother. Barry eventually came clean to Kim about the whereabouts of his mother Kerry. It transpired that Kerry had tried to drown Kim in the bath in infancy (possibly effects of Post-Natal Depression), as she had done with Kim's elder brother Jonathan, and Barry reacted by holding Kerry's head underwater resulting in her death.
In 2006, Barry was unmasked as the killer of corrupt local mayor Josh West after confessing to Morag Bellingham. In flashbacks, viewers learned that Barry had come into Josh's office to confront him about blackmail and there was a struggle between the two after Josh had pulled a gun on Barry – during which the gun went off, killing Josh.
Barry was subsequently arrested for both the murders of Kerry and Josh and bailed and began lodging in the flat above the diner. However, after harassment from many local residents, Barry decided to move to the city to await his sentencing. But what will the eventual verdict be at his trial?
