Barrie Leadbeater

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Barrie Leadbeater is a cricketer and umpire.

Born in 1943 in Harehills in Leeds, Leadbeater played for Yorkshire County Cricket Club as a middle order batsman from 1966 to 1979, although he preferred to open the innings. In 147 first class matches he scored 5373 runs at 25.34, an average which belied his undoubted talent. The highlight of his playing career was the 76 he scored in the 1969 Gillette Cup Final. He compiled just one first class hundred and posted a top score of 90 in 106 List A one day games. His first class bowling average of 5 is more impressive, but he took just one wicket with his rarely seen medium pace.

After retiring from first class cricket he became a well respected umpire on the first class English circuit, umpiring 4 matches in the 1983 World Cup and a One Day International, England v West Indies at Nottingham on July 20th, 2000.
