Barrenjoey High School is in the Sydney suburb of Avalon, and backs onto Avalon Beach, often used as a location for the popular Australian soap opera, Home and Away.
The school is a high school. The first student intake was in 1968 with a single grade (known at the time as 'Form 1'). The school grew with each year's intake. This necessitated some construction of school buildings at the turn of the decade to accommodate the growing student body. The first intake progressed through to the Higher School Certificate in 1973. Ms Lynette Russell is now in retirement, however, Barrenjoey HS has found a new principal, Mr Ian Bowsher.
