Barncluith, Hamilton

Barncluith is an area of Hamilton, Scotland. Barncluith forms the south-eastern part of the town, between the town centre and the Avon Water. It lies either side of Carlisle Road, which leads out of Hamilton to Larkhall and the Clyde Valley.
Barncluith Primary School, closed in the 1990s and the school building lies just beyond the existing road which separates Barncluith from the town centre. The Rev. John Brown, father of Gordon Brown MP, the current Prime Minister, was the minister of St. John's church, and formerly lived in the manse on Barncluith Road[citation needed].
Barncluith House is an impressive stone tower house built around 1538, but heavily restored. Now a private house, it has summer houses within terraced gardens which run down to the Avon Water.
