Coordinates: Barnala is a district head quarter of Punjab. It is situated in the heart of the state. Barnala is well known for textiles as world famous Trident Company is situated here which is recognised for producing towels etc.

Barnala was named after Baba ala.

Barnala is located at .[1] It has an average elevation of 227 metres (744 feet).
Barnala is a medium sized town with all the amenities available within commutable distance. Its economy is supported by neighboring agriculture rich villages like Rure Ke Kalan, Dhaula, Pakho Kalan,Thikriwal, Gehal, Rajgarh, Uppli, Pherwahi, Dhanaula, Amla Singh Wala. It has diverse population supporting local industries and food business. now Barnala is a newly declared district of Punjab state,which is delared by the former chief minister of Punjab Cpt.Amrinder singh

As of 2001 India census,[2] Barnala had a population of 96,397. Males constitute 54% of the population and females 46%. Barnala has an average literacy rate of 65%, higher than the national average of 59.5%; with 58% of the males and 42% of females literate. 12% of the population is under 6 years of age.

Barnala has certain streets which are improving at a very fast pace - main is Sadar Bazar, Pharwahi Bazar, K.C. Road and Handiaya Bazar, Purana Bazar, College Road and Sekha Road. Real estate is flourishing now. There are some good residential areas in Barnala example - Astha Enclave, Inderlok Avenue, shiv shakti Vatika etc which are developing to become an important part of the city. There are good industrial Houses like Trident group which is world famous because of its terry towel project. Others are : Standard Combine Tractors Pvt. Ltd.,Malwa Cotton Spining Mills Ltd. It has a famous place called Barnala Quilla(Fort). It is still a developing city . Shaheed Bhagat Singh Colony is the best place for family and has posh houses in Barnala. The largest bottleneck is Dhanaula Phatak (Railway Crossing), It clearly divides city in two parts. Unless a Railway over-bridge is constructed the second half of Barnala will be under-developed area.As Barnala has become district now, Investors will invest more on the development of Barnala.

Barnala has many schools for children. Although, it has few colleges(S.d. college,Lal Bahadur Shastri Arya Women's College) but they have quite good reputation in the city. The following are the schools which are well known[5]:

Barnala has very few hotels like Visit hotel etc. But clubs such as Barnala club(also known as Sports Club), Rotary club, Lions club are very famous clubs to hang around. Barnala club has many facilities like swimming pool, Lawn Tennis, Table tennis, gym, badminton, basketball, Yoga etc. These clubs also have facilities for special occasions, parties like dinner, birthdays etc. These parties are very well organized and have variety of foods.

As such there are no multiplex like PVR or malls as yet but there are two cinema halls - Prabhat cinema and New Palace which are edged to close[7]. Certain fairs and circus come here often. But recently exclusive Monte carlo showroom has opened for garments etc.
