From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Barnegat Branch Trail is a rail trail in New Jersey.
It occupies a 15.6 mile (25.1 km) abandoned rail corrider in Ocean County, New Jersey that will extend from Barnegat Township to Toms River.[1] The trail, will be built along the abandoned Barnegat Branch Division of the Central Railroad of New Jersey, which stopped service on the line in 1977.[2] The trail will be developed in three phases.
Phase I of the trail, will connect West Bay Avenue to the Barnegat Boulevard Extension in Barnegat Township, with work scheduled to begin in fall 2007.[3] The trail surface will be stone dust, typical of rail-trails, with a 10-foot easement.[4]
