Coordinates: 25°29′N 85°43′E / 25.48, 85.72 Barh is a city and a municipality in Patna district in the state of Bihar, India. It is located on the Ganges River, 34 miles south-east of Patna.

Barh is located at 25.48° N 85.72° E.[1] It has an average elevation of 47 metres (154 feet).

As of 2001 India census,[2] Barh had a population of 48,405. Males constitute 54% of the population and females 46%. Barh has an average literacy rate of 59%, lower than the national average of 59.5%; with 60% of the males and 40% of females literate. 15% of the population is under 6 years of age.

Fatuha (also Fatwah) is one of the 20 blocks of Barh. It is about 25 kilometres east of Patna, lying on the banks of the Ganges River and is the confluence of the Punpun river and Ganges. Its well connected by trains on Howrah- Delhi main line, falling under the Danapur East central railway division of the Indian railways.

The Grand-Trunk road connects Fatuha to the rest of the Bihar. It had a scooter factory as well as a tractor factory. The sayings as per the locals goes that it was known as "PATWA" due to the large numbers of patwas or weavers living in here. The name gradually changed during the colonial rule as per their pronunciation.

It is also the first block development office of Bihar to get its own website. (http://www.fatwah.in)

The year of establishment was 2 October 1957. The total geographical area is 12016.45 hectares.

The Indian Railways station code is FUT. Subscriber Trunk Dialing code is 0612. The nearest airport is Lok Nayak Jayaprakash Airport.

Barh is one of the oldest sub division in Patna District. Perhaps it is a unique sub division in India which was declared a district just for a day. Barh has got very popular sweet, called “Laai”. Laai is made of Ramdana and khowa. In terms of mythology also it has got great importance because river Ganga flows from south to north (Utraain Ganga) : "Manoj Kumar Nirala".
