Bardera Airport (IATA: BSY, ICAO: HCMD) is located northeast of the city of Bardera, in Gedo, Somalia. The airport currently has no regularly scheduled flights. As part of the UN mission to Somalia, United States corps of engineers conducted thorough measurements and surface hardening of the runway during the UN's intervention in the civil war in Somalia during 1993-1994.
There are proposals to make the airport viable for regularly scheduled flights or at least able to find business people who will take advantage of cargo transportation opportunities. Diaspora friends of Bardera city are planning flights from Bardera destined to Mecca for the Hajj season of 2008.
As people see the economic potential of Bardera District and Gedo region as a whole, there are also plans to link the city of Bardera to Kismayo and Dubai. Currently the only flights in and out of Bardera Airport are small planes of chartered flights from Nairobi.
