Barbara W. Snelling was elected lieutenant governor of Vermont in 1992 and served two terms until suffering a cerebral hemorrhage in 1996 while campaigning for governor. She was elected to the Vermont State Senate in 1998, where she served until she retired in 2002.
She is the widow of the late Richard Snelling, a long time governor of Vermont and mother of Diane B. Snelling, who currently holds her old seat in the State Senate.
