Barbara Montgomery is a current on-and-off-again resident of the fictional town of Pine Valley on the American soap opera All My Children. She is portrayed by Susan Pratt, from 1987 to 1991 (intermittently recurring in the 1990s). She returned on February 9, 2007, but left in July of the same year due to lack of story.
[edit] Brief fictional history
Barbara comes to Pine Valley in 1987 as a high-powered executive involved in her ex-husband's (Travis Montgomery) campaign for political office. She constantly butts heads with Erica Kane, who is in love with Travis. Although they don't always agree, she and Bianca Montgomery, her stepdaughter, are close, and is as protective of her as the rest of her family. This often distresses Erica. However, a rift between Barbara and Bianca forms as a result of Bianca's sexual orientation, leading Barbara to deny Bianca contact with her half-sister, Molly. Her return to Pine Valley annoys more than a few people, especially Bianca when Barbara insults Zoe, a transgender friend of Bianca's, leading Bianca to attack Barbara verbally for her bigoted attitude. However, Barbara is willing to apologize to Bianca for her attitude and presents Bianca's daughter, Miranda, with a gift that had belonged to Bianca's father, Travis. Bianca does eventually forgive Barbara. Barbara later sees Jackson Montgomery and Erica lying about ending their marriage.
