Barbara Ciara is a Norfolk, Va.-based television journalist.

Ciara is managing editor and anchor at WTKR "NewsChannel 3" in Norfolk. In August 2007, she began a two-year term as president of the National Association of Black Journalists.
Ciara began her career in Tucson, Arizona, where she attended the University of Arizona and worked on the school newspaper at Pima Community College. In 1976 during her junior year, she left school to work full time at Tucson's KZAZ-TV, serving in a variety of production and on-air roles. In 1978, she became news director, becoming the youngest female and first African-American to reach that position at a commercial television station in the southwest.
Ciara has lived in the Hampton Roads area for many years, working for both WAVY-TV and WVEC-TV and serving as managing editor of LNC. She also served as managing editor of a partnership between WVEC-TV and WHRO public television. Ciara was hired at WTKR to be the main evening anchor for the 6:00 and 11:00 shows, however she failed to improve the ratings and was subsequently demoted to noon anchor and reporter.
Ciara has received numerous awards for her work, including a 2000 Emmy award for her series "Guilty Til Proven Innocent." That same year, she completed her degree summa cum laude at Hampton University.
