From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Hello and welcome to my user space!
You can contact me on my talk page.
I have administrator privileges both here on English Wikipedia and at Commons. Feel free to bring any needed moppage to my attention (and don't forget to upload free images to Commons and not here!). I am philosophically mergist, which means that I prefer for much new information to be added to existing articles and broken out as needed, rather started as a new stub that may or may not grow into a proper article. Generally speaking, I have to at least visualize a new topic with 'how it came to be', 'what it is' and 'why it matters' sections before I start an entirely new article, even if I fail to write it all down once I get into the edit window. I also appear to be a bit of a user block 'long-ball hitter', to take an analogy used with judges, in that I implement escalating length of blocks for repeat vandals more than other admins, as far as I can tell from looking at block logs. I also prefer redirecting plausible titles to existing articles, rather than deleting such titles, which I consider to be unhelpful 'cleanup'. And that's much more than you probably wanted to know.
For some clearheaded thinking on Wikipedia for those with a scientific bent, I recommend the quotations collected by Raymond arritt. (stable) Also, check out this retracted "I'm going!" rant, which nevertheless makes some good points. I believe that capricious actions by some users with special privileges threaten the viability of Wikipedia as much as or more than any COI editor or band of trolls. IRC, as a forum alien to the community cannot be used to justify actions on-wiki. Actions on-wiki that are explained as "There was discussion on IRC...", should be reevaluated immediately and reverted if onwiki evidence casts any doubt on the decision. Similarly, onwiki publication of IRC logs or other infraction of IRC rules cannot be punished by the Wikipedia community.

[edit] Contributions
Articles and stubs that I have started, and feel are neat, are in normal text. Articles I have messed up in some way that I feel is significant are followed by a *. Note that my categorization scheme below reflects a personal quirk that divides articles on my motivation for writing them. I am aware that articles listed under "conflict-related" deserve to be known for more than being involved in recent violence. I also admit to having only fuzzy recollections of some of the older edits here. You may see my uploaded images with Daniel's tool (Thanks Duesentrieb!) and my edit summary with the wanna-be Kate tool (Thanks Kate and Interiot!).

[edit] Administrator nominations
Identifying a user with the skills, experience and temperament to be a good candidate for administrator privileges is as important as any other single contribution one can make on Wikipedia. I nominated the following users at Requests for adminship and all received community approval for the mop: Mark Dingemanse, Gyrofrog, Kjkolb, Aldux and Art LaPella

[edit] Recall
Admins, as glorified janitors, should be accountable to the non-admin body of editors. However, adminship often calls for controversial decisions or implementations of judgments that cannot please everyone. Admins should not feel that their day-to-day moppage, or even unintended screw-ups, put their adminship at risk. This page elaborates on, and takes precedence before, the procedure listed on Category:Wikipedia administrators open to recall.
Only a user who is listed at Category:Wikipedia administrators open to recall may start a recall on my adminship. (If not one of 150+ users who have been vetted by the community and feels strongly enough about accountability to join doesn't think I've done something requiring censure, it's very unlikely that I have.) Once I am notified on my talk page, one of three things will happen:
- Five more users with at least "500 mainspace edits and over one month of tenure" will repeat the request within six months from the date that the recall began. Once the sixth request is made, I will request to be desysopped. I may or may not put myself back up at WP:RFA.
- Six months pass without the the necessary number of requests made. The recall will be considered unsuccessful and the slate wiped clean.
- The admin who started my recall removes him or herself from Category:Wikipedia administrators open to recall, in which case my recall ends immediately.
A new recall may not be started within one month of the previous ending. That's it. Hopefully there isn't a giant gaping hole in my logic.
