[edit] Requested move
Banzai (disambiguation) → Banzai — Currently Banzai redirects to Ten thousand years with a primarily Chinese definition. However in English, the word "banzai" has a rather predominantly Japanese connotation (not Chinese). Since Banzai (disambiguation) already mentions all the relevant meanings, Banzai should become this disambiguation page to reduce the confusion. Endroit 01:58, 13 January 2007 (UTC)

- Support as nominator. Banzai should NOT redirect immediately to Ten thousand years, because that is NOT what many people expect it to be.--Endroit 01:58, 13 January 2007 (UTC)
- Support this is news to me. Its more often seen as the WW2 war cry or the TV show in the west. I've never heard this ten thousand years (though ban is indeed 10,000 in Japanese IIRC...)--Josquius 12:58, 13 January 2007 (UTC)
- Support per nom. A direct translation of the Japanese word is probably one of the last things readers will be looking for, not the first. -- zzuuzz (talk) 17:32, 13 January 2007 (UTC)
- Support I think that most English readers will not be aware that Banzai means Ten Thousand Years, therefore it should clearly go to a disambiguation page.Zeus1234 04:27, 15 January 2007 (UTC)

- Support per nom. Having it be a disambiguation page is much better given its use in English. ···日本穣? · Talk to Nihonjoe 20:42, 16 January 2007 (UTC)

- Oppose I'm not 100% clear why the move was proposed, but you do know that the Japanese meaning of Banzai is also the same thing as "thousand years", just using the Japanese pronounciation? --Wirbelwindヴィルヴェルヴィント (talk) 04:51, 13 January 2007 (UTC)

- Simple reason.... The Ten thousand years article does not even mention the word Banzai (in English) until the bottom half of that article. Please compare that with any English dictionary (see below for Merriam-Webster's). The current content of Banzai (disambiguation) is closer to what the English readers would expect to find for the word "Banzai". This is the English wikipedia after all, not the Japanese nor the Chinese ones.--Endroit 05:00, 13 January 2007 (UTC)
