[edit] Notability

This bank had an IPO. I don't see that in WP:CORP as grounds for notability. I also don't see much basis for the idea that this coverage is independent. I'm going to re-add the notability template in the hopes that we can determine whether or not there is other notability-building coverage. I'll note that this exists in talk in the edit summary. If other editors feel really strongly that this article is clearly notable, I won't re-add it a third time. Erechtheus 02:19, 25 September 2006 (UTC)

Being on a stock exchange is considered notable under WP:AFDP. --Marriedtofilm 04:20, 19 October 2006 (UTC)
I can't see any remarks on IPO at WP:AFDP, you probably misread something. And I agree with Erechtheus: having been studying external links of the article last week, I found all of them advertisement-like. No analysis or criticism. This concerns referenceness, not exactly notability. But IPO is about notability of course. And local IPO is rather about anbsence of notability :) The recent removal of notablity tag was unmotivated cause we're supposed to change something or discuss when removing. I'll be back to this discussion after a few hours break. -- Futurano 09:26, 16 June 2007 (UTC)

I conducted additional WP research and found new information on article's unnotability. The Karachi Stock Exchange (where the IPO took place) appears to be very notable. But the bank is not mentioned either there, or in the stock exchange listing, or even in the List of banks in Pakistan. So I'm restoring not only the notability tag but also its original date. The next step is merger proposal and I'll make it within minutes. -- Futurano 16:16, 16 June 2007 (UTC)

There are several World Bank articles on banking in Pakistan that mention the bank. Also the Swiss development corporation worked with the bank doing microlending. And the Abbottabad development corporation mentions the importance of the bank for small enterprise work. All these web references were found doing a simple google of bank of khyber. I am not sure at all what makes a bank notable. I can't see anything that says any other than references in sources beyond basic press release items. This is a regional bank taht was setup up near the beginning of the economic relaxation of Pakistan's finance system. It provided micro loans, and has been one of the last state owned banks to become privatized. For Pakistan, I think it is probably a very notable bank. Does that make it notable enough for the Engliswh.wikipedia? I really have no clue. Jvv62 03:50, 18 June 2007 (UTC)
