Banu Ukhaidhir

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Banu Ukhaidhir (Arabic: بنو الأخيضر‎) established a kingdom in Al-Yamamah (central Arabia) in 866 C.E.. They were descendents of Muhammad through his daughter Fatimah and his grandson Al-Hassan, and at least one contemporary traveller [1] describes them as having been Shi'ites of the Zaydi persuasion. Their capital was known as Al-Khidhrimah, which lay near the present-day city of Al-Kharj in Saudi Arabia. Their rule lasted until some time in the mid-11th century, when the powerful Qarmatians of neighboring Al-Hasa swept them away as part of their conquest of the Arabian Peninsula.
