Banu Dawud is an Arabic-named Somali clan, part of the Darod tribe. They trace their lineage to Banu Hashim who migrated to the Somali coast nearly 900 years ago. The ancestor of this tribe, Sheikh Abdirahman bin Is'mail al-Jaberti, himself a descendant of Muhammad ibn Aqil, married the daughter of a Somali Dir chief. This led to the Darod population intermarrying with the Dir tribe. The Banu Dawud are spread over Somalia.
