Bansi Kaul (born 1949) is a well-known Hindi theatre director and the founder of Rang Vidushak, a theatre group and Theatre institute in Bhopal [1].

Bansi Kaul was born August 23, 1949 in Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir [2], and later graduated from National School of Drama (NSD), New Delhi in 1973.

He started his career as a director with NSD Repertory Company [3] and was also in the faculty of the school for many years, before forming his own theatre group in 1984.

He was awarded the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award award in 1995.

His most known performance is 'Kehan Kabir', based on collected works of poet-saint Kabir [4]

In 1984, he founded Rang Vidushak, a theatre group that has incorporated folk idioms into its production and evolved a new idiom of clown-theatre.

It has performed in India and elsewhere in several languages such as Hindi, Punjabi, Sanskrit, Tamil and Singhalese [5].
