Banksia acuminata is a shrub endemic to Western Australia.

[edit] Taxonomy

First collected by Ludwig Preiss near the Gordon River on 7 November 1840, it was published by Carl Meissner in 1945, who named it Dryandra preissii in Priess's honour. In 2007, all Dryandra species were transferred to Banksia by Austin Mast and Kevin Thiele. As the name Banksia preissii had already been published by Otto Kuntze for the plant now known as Pimelea preissii, Mast and Thiele were forced to chose a new specific epithet; their choice, "acuminata", is from the Latin acuminatus ("drawn to a fine point"), in reference to the shape of the outermost involucral bracts.
