Banjar is located at 31.63° N 77.35° E.[1] It has an average elevation of 1962 metres (6436 feet).

As of 2001 India census,[2] Banjar had a population of 1262. Males constitute 55% of the population and females 45%. Banjar has an average literacy rate of 84%, higher than the national average of 59.5%; with 58% of the males and 42% of females literate. 8% of the population is under 6 years of age.
