Bangladesh Friendship Education Society

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Bangladesh Friendship Education Society is a non-profit organization based in Dhaka, Bangladesh which works on information and communication technologies for development and for community development.

Among its current projects are AmaderGram.org, or "OurVillage", an initiative to promote rural journalism and reporting from the rural areas. This project is based in the Rampal sub-district (locally called a thana) of Bagerhat district in south-west Bangladesh.

Information is collected about local rural statistics, school education facilities, health issues, nutrition and the like, and is uploaded via the centre, after being edited. BFES has launched a project to develop village portals with support from the Switzerland government's development organisation the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC).

It is also involved in a telemedicine project with the Ohio State University at Ohio, under support from the International Breast Cancer Research Foundation (IBCRF) of the United States of America to undertake screening of rural women for breast-cancer.

BFES has also been lobbying for the speedy launch of the project to connect Bangladesh with the SEA-ME-WE4 submarine cable for speedier internet access.
