Bangaru Laxman

Bangaru Laxman was minister of state for railways in Government of India from 1999 to 2000. Later he became President of Bharatiya Janata Party but resigned soon after Tehelka case .

Born as Hindu Untouchable now known as Dalit in 1939 in Andhra Pradesh he studiedBA and LLB. He joined politics at young age. He was jailed in emergency in 1975. He was elected to Rajya Sabha in 1996. He has held many party positions including the party president.

He was involved in a major controversy when a private TV network tehelka.com showed him taking bribes on a hidden camera while he was the president of the BJP. He was forced to resign as the party president and a criminal case was registered against him which has entered prosecution stage.
