Coordinates: 12°58′N 78°12′E / 12.97, 78.2 Bangarapet (Kannada ಬಂಗಾರಪೇಟೆ )is a town in Kolar district in the Indian state of Karnataka. It is the last railway junction in Karnataka before entering Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu. Bangarapet was originally called as Maramootlu after it is changed to Bowringpet, named after an officer working in the Kolar Gold Fields. This town came into existence as the connecting point for the traffic between the gold fields and Bangalore.

Bangarapet is bordered by both Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu

This town was famous in karnataka for rice trading. The popular languages spoken here are Kannada,Telugu,Tamil,Marati,Urdu & Hindi.

Bangarapet is located at 12.97° N 78.2° E.[1] It has an average elevation of 843 metres (2765 feet). Kannada is the major language and next is Telugu and Tamil in this region.

As of 2001 India census,[2] Bangarapet had a population of 58,000. Males constitute 51% of the population and females 49%. Bangarapet has an average literacy rate of 72%, higher than the national average of 59.5%; with 54% of the males and 46% of females literate. 12% of the population is under 6 years of age. During the British times Bangarpet was known as Bowringpet.and before this marmutullu
